What is a Mitro Mate?
A Mitro Mate is a small business that creates plush toy designed to help children become familiar with catheterization and through play. Our goal is to make medical care feel less scary while helping every child feel represented.
Who are Mitro Mates designed for?
Anyone! Mitro Mates were designed for our Mitrofanoff friends but we think using your imagination is great! Below is a list of mates we think would love a Mitro Mate:
- Children with a Mitrofanoff
- Children who may require intermittent self-catheterization
- Families preparing for surgery

They can also help siblings, classmates and friends better understand a child's medical condition.
Can I choose where my Mate's Mitrofanoff is located?
Absolutely! We currently offer 3 positions: Right side, Left side or the centre of their tummies.
What is hand finished on Mitro Mate?
Our plushies are sourced from a reputable manufacturer and their Mitrofanoffs are created and installed by our founder, Sophie. Like real ostomies, no two are the same!
Can I request a custom Mitro Mate?
We're always exploring new ideas and medical representation.
